A Plantation Christmas Start the holiday season by stepping back
in time for a 19th century Christmas celebration. Tour the plantation
and learn about early American Christmas traditions. Free with regular
admission ($6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, ages 5 and under
free).

December 5, 2009 (6-9pm)
Candlelight Christmas) Step into an 1820s Christmas as you tour
the plantation by candlelight! In the house you will see dancing, meet
James and Jane Latta, enjoy the excitement of children before bedtime, and
more! Visit the animals in the carriage barn, enjoy the smells of
Christmas in the kitchen, and see how slaves celebrated in the cabin.
Admission is $6 per person, ages 5 and under free.
December 9, 2009 (12-4pm) A
Homeschool Christmas
Celebrate Christmas in 19th century style! The house will be decorated
for the season! Homeschoolers will learn about 19th century American
Christmas traditions in each room and meet a Victorian St. Nick! Visit
the kitchen and see Christmas goodies cooking on the hearth. Learn
about Christmas for those who were enslaved on the plantation in the cabin.
Warm up by the fire and take a snack break! Crafts are included with
admission and will include a wreath ornament and rosemary twig decoration.
Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under are free. No RSVP
required!

2010 Civil War Winter Quarters and Homefront See how
soldiers survived brutal winters encamped with the armies, how families
survived back home, and more! Free with regular admission.
January 16, 2010 (10am-4pm) Open
Hearth Cooking Workshop Learn the basics of 19th century hearth
cooking. Participants will learn about period utensils and tools,
recipes, and prepare a meal in the Latta kitchen. The cost is $30 per
person.

Costuming Workshop (part I)
Learn hands-on how to research,
design, and create your own authentic and appropriate historic costumes. In
the morning, we will cover the basics of costume research and look at ways
to create impressions from a variety of eras. After lunch we will discuss
costuming details that make all the difference. From accessories to
different hand sewing techniques, you will take away a new appreciation for
the garments of our foremothers! At the end of the day, we will have
individual consultations on starting your very own historical garment - from

Costuming Workshop (part II) Take what you learned in Part 1 and
put it to some practical use! Using the information from your consultation,
we will work on creating the perfect garment for your impression. Bring your
own sewing tools and sewing machine and get one-on-one advice on your

the Big House Learn about the lives of those who were enslaved on
the plantation. Free with regular admission.
February 12, 2010 (12-4pm)
Victorian Valentine Living history day set aside for homeschoolers
and their families. Learn about 19th century Valentine customs, make
your own Valentine with a quill pen, learn English Country dancing, fan
language, and more! Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.
No rsvp required.
February 13 (11am-4pm) - 14
(1-4pm), 2010 Valentine Sweetheart Tours Step back in time with
your sweetheart as you tour the Latta home and hear sweetheart stories from
the past! Tours begin every hour. Free with regular admission.

Knitting Workshop Learn the basics of knitting or solidify your
skills! (Cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, simple patterns, and cast off.)
Each session is four hours long and limited to 6 participants. The class fee
of $35 includes yarn and knitting needles to take home with you. For
reenactors and history buffs alike, this is an excellent opportunity to
increase your skill base and add to your repertoire of "period"
